Florida Fishing Captain Lands Massive Cobia in Unforgettable Day on the Water

For Captain Alex Rojas of Bradenton, Florida, one recent fishing trip turned into the kind of story anglers dream about. While guiding a charter off the Gulf Coast, Rojas hooked and landed a massive cobia—a catch so impressive it’s now etched into his personal fishing history.

According to the Bradenton Herald, the cobia measured over 50 inches and weighed in at more than 60 pounds, making it one of the largest Rojas has ever encountered. The fight was intense, lasting nearly 30 minutes, as the powerful fish tested both his gear and his endurance.

“It’s the kind of moment you never forget,” Rojas told the Herald. “Everything lined up perfectly—the weather, the tide, and the fish. It was pure adrenaline.”

Cobia are known for their strength and unpredictable runs, often requiring skill and patience to land. Rojas credits his years of experience and quick thinking for the successful catch, which was safely released after documentation.

The story has since inspired local anglers and added to Bradenton’s reputation as a prime destination for sport fishing. Rojas hopes the tale encourages more people to explore Florida’s rich coastal waters and practice sustainable fishing.
