The highly anticipated DC film "Superman," starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, has made a strong debut at the global box office. The movie raked in over $122 million domestically in its opening weekend, making it the third-largest debut of 2025 so far, trailing "A Minecraft Movie" ($162 million) and "Lilo & Stitch" ($146 million).
Internationally, "Superman" added an impressive $95 million from 78 markets, bringing its worldwide cumulative total to $217 million. Despite strong performances in markets like the United Kingdom ($9.8 million), Mexico ($8.8 million), Brazil ($5.9 million), and Australia ($5.3 million), the film saw a softer performance in China, earning only $6.6 million.
The film, which had a production budget of $225 million and an additional $100 million for promotion, marks a pivotal moment for Warner Bros. and DC Studios. Directed by James Gunn, it is the inaugural entry in the relaunched DC Universe, with "Supergirl" slated to follow in summer 2026.
Critics and audiences have responded positively to the new "Superman" installment. The movie currently holds an 82% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, complemented by a strong 93% audience score. This positive reception, combined with its robust box office numbers, positions "Superman" as a significant step forward for the DC franchise.
