Moscow, Russia – Drone attacks have targeted several Russian cities, including the capital, Moscow, and various regions, according to reports. Russian authorities claim to have intercepted a large number of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the overnight assault, though some drones reportedly reached their intended targets, resulting in casualties and damage.
Russian air defenses allegedly shot down 122 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions. While more than half of these drones were reportedly downed over the Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk regions, which border Ukraine, at least three drones managed to reach Moscow.
In the Smolensk region, which borders Belarus, one person was reported injured, and a civilian object sustained minor damage, as stated by Governor Vasily Anokhin on Telegram.
The Belgorod region experienced a more severe impact, with Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reporting three fatalities and at least 17 injuries due to a Ukrainian drone attack.
Notably, drones also reached St. Petersburg, a significant Russian city. Leningrad Oblast Governor Alexander Drozdenko confirmed that two drones were shot down in the early morning, leading to the temporary suspension of operations at the local Pulkovo airport.
Furthermore, a drone reportedly crashed into a 16-story residential building in Voronezh, injuring several people, including three teenagers, according to the Voronezh Oblast Governor.
These recent attacks follow previous drone strikes on Russian territory. On March 8, drones from Ukraine's Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) reportedly attacked an oil refinery complex in the Leningrad region. The GRU later confirmed that a group of UAVs targeted the Kirishinefteorgsintez enterprise in the Kirishi district of the Leningrad region.
