A British backpacker has gone viral after revealing her astonishing earnings as a casual supermarket employee in a remote corner of Western Australia, vastly outstripping what she made in the UK. Lauren, 29, from Liverpool, shared her experience on TikTok, highlighting the stark difference in wages between her previous career and her new role down under.
Earlier this year, Lauren left her job as a support worker in England, where she earned approximately £12.50 (around AUD4,700). Seeking new adventures and better opportunities, she embarked on a journey to Australia.
Upon arriving in Australia, Lauren secured a job stacking shelves at an IGA supermarket in Derby, a remote town in Western Australia's Kimberley region. The difference in pay was immediate and significant. Her base rate for stacking shelves on weekdays is AUD34perhour.ThisrateclimbstoAUD38 per hour (the equivalent of about £19) for shifts after 6 PM from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays.
